Welcome to my new site! (See the 2009 – 2014 blog here.)
After many years of throwing my heart into other sports (taekwondo and rugby), I returned to my roots as a runner. I completed my first marathon in September 2010, second in May 2011, third in March 2012, and fourth in May 2014 (and looking forward to many more in the future). I also completed my first iron distance triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run), the Beach2Battleship tri in Wilmington, NC on October 20, 2012. (Race Reports: part 1, part 2, part 3) After that, I completed my second Ironman at Ironman Lake Placid on July 28, 2013 (Race reports: Pre-Race, The Swim, The Bike, The Run), and third at Ironman Boulder on August 3, 2014 (Race reports: Pre-Race, The Swim, The Bike, The Run).
After three triathlon seasons, I decided to dip my toe into the world of ultrarunning. In 2015, I completed multiple 50k races (Fatass Frozen Dead Guy 50k, Dirty 30 50k), and was training for my first 100 mile race. Unfortunately, I ended up with a stupid injury the week before the 100 miler, and was unable to race. 2016 saw yet another failed attempt at the 100 miler due to illness, but overall, I had a fun year of exploring the Colorado trails. My ultrarunning adventure continues to this day, with a focus on joy and enjoying the process of training and becoming stronger. I am still working towards goal races (50k and longer), but I am working to shift my mentality away from fixating on the race as the ultimate goal.
My other favorite thing (besides running) is COOKING. In 2009 I went vegetarian. In 2010, I took the next step and went vegan. Before making those transitions, I never enjoyed food or was even remotely interested in cooking. Now I am quite the foodie and vegan cook! I feel a million times better than I did before, and I love playing with my food.
